When in Arizona, stop by the Mesa Arts Center. There is something to please every guest. Whether you are looking to marvel at a fantastic showpiece of architecture, or you want a good time in the evening, this is your place. Also, make sure to savor the art exhibitions.
A winning award complex
Finished in 2005, the performing and visual arts complex showcases a post-modern architecture with sharp angles and glass walls. In 2007, the American Society of Landscape Architects granted the Professional General Design Award to applaud the stunning achievement. The design is inspired by the shape of a geode, leading visitors from the outer concrete walls to a central space of glass, water, and color. The features representing water, include a boulder-filled arroyo, celebrating the oasis theme of the building. In summer it's a perfect spot to refresh your feet.
The Mesa Arts Center's sculpture courtyard named after Wayne Brown – former mayor of Mesa and promoter of the project – is also an important spot to lookout. The complex hosts four community free festivals throughout the year, bringing the site to its major splendor. Make sure to check their calendar because they might be happening while you are in town visiting.
The Arts Gallery
The center is also home to the Contemporary Arts gallery. Every year they present 15 exhibitions in their five space galleries, showing contemporary works of traditional media and works on paper. As well, they include crafts of ceramics, fibers, metals, glass and so on. Every exhibition is carefully chosen to inspire their visitors. So be ready to engage with relevant and diverse artwork that will make your visit worthwhile.
Visit for the entertainment
If you are staying for a few days, you might be able to catch one of their performances. The complex has four venues hosting a variety of entertainment for all the tastes. Enjoy symphonic orchestras, Broadway musicals, dance, film screening, jazz concerts, cirques, country music, and even lectures. Many of the performances are live, and during Christmas, there's plenty of seasonally-themed events to have fun.
Take a tour
The facility also features 14 unique visual and performing art classroom studios that serve as multi-use areas for a variety of classes and workshops. To learn more, a free tour of the campus, as well as a private one, is offered on site for an extra cost. A personalized tour of the Contemporary Arts Gallery is an option too. Make sure to make a week-in-advance reservation for each of them on their website.
